Do you need to wear post-surgery bras after breast augmentation?

Having a breast augmentation is not an easy decision to make. The procedure involves enhancing the appearance of the breasts with surgical techniques to help you achieve the results you desire. However, the achievable result does not solely depend on the technique used but also the recovery experience that follows. Here at Centre for Surgery we strive to only give our patients the best outcomes and experience during the procedure.

What is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation has many different sub categories like, breast enlargement, breast lift, breast reduction, nipple correction, nipple reduction, breast asymmetry and more. These surgeries aim to give people the confidence they lack by enhancing or improving the appearance of their breasts. Now-a-days it is not a taboo to have a breast augmentation with its increasing popularity among celebrities opting to change the size or shape of their breasts and being open about it. Since 1997 4.93% of women in America alone have some type of breast augmentation.

What happens during a breast augmentation?

As there are different types of breast augmentation there are various techniques involved in performing them. Here is how the different types are carried out.

-Breast enlargement – The patient is first put under general anaesthesia, then an incision is made either under or over the pectoral muscle (depending on what the surgeon recommends) and then an implant is placed in the incision, the material of the implant has to be discussed with your surgeon. The incision is then stitched up to complete the procedure. After the procedure a post surgery bra needs to be worn for at least three months unless your surgeons recommends otherwise.

-Breast reduction – The patient is first put under general anaesthesia and then incisions are made to remove a large amount of the breast tissue to remove some of the weight and size of the breasts. The nipples are also reshaped and repositioned to make them match the size of the breast. In some cases liposuction is used to sculpt and reshape the breasts. Again the post surgery bra needs to be worn for at least three months after the procedure for the best results.

Are the post surgery bras needed?

Yes the post surgery bras are very important; the post surgery bra helps the patients achieve the best results possible. The post surgery bras are designed to help promote healing of the breasts as well as support them to help recovery.

The surgeons at Centre for Surgery recommends using the recovery bras ‘to help heal well’ as well as ‘giving the most pleasing results possible’. The surgeons at Centre for Surgery recommend each patient they work on to use the relative post surgery garment.
